In the past, when I was sitting in the back of the car and it was evening, I always looked at the moon. No matter how fast we went, the moon always moved along with us. And now, with the distant trips we sometimes make, it’s still the same moon in the sky.

I am Maaike and this is my weblog. I was born and raised in The Netherlands. Since 2012, I am married to Freddy. We live in the UK at the moment. We have one cat, Ivan. I studied in Wageningen and my professional interest lies with small-scale agriculture in Africa. I also am involved in web design, this weblog is an example of that. I don’t eat any animal products or animals; I have both environmental and ethical reasons for that. My favourite place is the library. Some of my favourite books are:

  • The Moorchild, Eloise McGraw
  • The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien
  • Life of Pi, Yann Martel
  • The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams
  • (and secretly Harry Potter)

This weblog is meant to be a representation of my life and the things I think about. The name of the website is Ronde Maan, Dutch for ‘Round Moon’. When the moon is round, the strangest things happen. You are welcome to experience them with me.
